چکیده

Tungsten doped amorphous carbon films are prepared on silicon 100 by postimplantation of tungsten ions into pure amorphous hydrogenated carbon using the plasma immersion ion implantation technique. The peak concentration of tungsten reaches 27 at. % and W–C nanocrystallites with largest diameters of 5 nm are formed in the near surface region. Both the quantity and size of these nanocrystallites are observed to undergo unique transformation with increasing depths, enabling gradual release of the compressive stress and subsequently leading to better adhesion between the film and substrate. The film structures are evaluated by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and glancing angle x-ray diffraction, and high-resolution transmission microscopy is employed to investigate the structural transformation. The mechanical properties of the films including adhesion strength and hardness are determined by nanoindentation and nanoscratch tests. The formation of the nanocrystalline structures can be explained by ion implantation induced damage, chemical effects, and thermodynamics. © 2007 American Institute of Physics. Swift chemical sputtering of covalently bonded materials

Numerous experiments have shown that low-energy H ions and neutrals can erode amorphous carbon at ion energies of 1-10 eV, where physical sputtering is impossible, but at erosion rates which are clearly higher than those caused by thermal ions. In this paper we will first review our computer simulation work providing an atom-level mechanism for how this erosion occurs, and then present some new...

Carbide formation in tungsten-containing amorphous carbon films by annealing

Tungsten-containing amorphous carbon films were produced by dual magnetron sputter deposition. The formation of carbide phases after heat treatment in inert gas at temperatures up to 2800 K was investigated by X-ray diffraction for tungsten concentrations below 25 at%. After deposition, each film consists of an amorphous carbon matrix with atomically dispersed W inclusions. Annealing up to 2800...

Cladding of stellite composite on carbon steel by gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW)

This paper deals with the investigation of the microstructure and hardness of steel samples cladded with satellite 6-WC composites by using gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) process. For this purpose, steel samples were coated with unreinforced and reinforced stellite (by 20, 30 and 40 wt.% WC). The cladded samples were evaluated by metallographic studies, microhardness measurement and X-ray diff...

Molecular dynamics simulation of erosion and surface evolution of tungsten due to bombardment with deuterium and carbon in Tokamak fusion environments

The behavior of tungsten as plasma facing material in fusion environment is investigated using molecular dynamics simulation. Tungsten erosion and surface evolution is simulated during irradiation by carbon and deuterium ions. Non-cumulative pure carbon bombardment on crystal tungsten shows that substrate temperature does not affect carbon trapping rate, implantation depth, and tungsten sputter...

Preparation of hydrogenated amorphous silicon tin alloys

2014 This paper describes a new method to obtain hydrogenated amorphous semiconductor alloys. The method is reactive co-evaporation. Silicon tin hydrogenated alloys are prepared under atomic hydrogen atmosphere. We discuss the influence of various parameters of preparation (hydrogen pressure, tungsten tube temperature, substrate temperature, annealing...) on electrical properties of samples. Re...
